Prepreg or Pre Impregnated Fabrics
Product Description
Prepreg or pre impregnated fabrics are fabrics made from various types of technical fibres (glass, aramid, natural fibres...) from different armatures, which have been impregnated with thermoplastic matrix (polyester, polyamide...).
These fabrics, once assembled in layers, create high-performance thermoplastic laminates, through a process of compression and thermoforming.
New line of prepeg fabrics made of glass and polypropylene (PP)
A glass and polypropylene (PP) “prepreg” fabric is made by combining textured glass yarn with multi-filament polypropylene. The flexibility of our textile technology allows us to customize glass and polypropylene (PP) "prepreg" fabrics starting from weaving pattern, weight and width based on the intended use and the required characteristics.
The consolidation of the layers is carried out through a compression moulding process, heating the prepreg to a temperature of 200-220°C, higher than the melting point of the polypropylene (PP) matrix and applying pressure during the cooling phase (approximately 10 bars).
Product Features and Benefits
- Prepreg ready for use: the thermoplastic resin is already within the fabric.
- Efficient processing conditions
- Absence of VOC emissions
- Easy storage
- Density 1.6 g/cm3
- High mechanical properties
- Tensile modulus: 17 Gpa according to ISO 527-4
- Low void content: <2% after the manufacturing process, which should be carried out in vacuum.
- Bending modulus: 16 Gpa according to ISO 178
- ILSS: 16 Mpa according to ASTM D2344”
Market Opportunities
- Cases: composites impact performance and lightness allow the production of customized items, ranging from suitcases to bags and cases, especially designed for technical equipment
- Automotive & Transportation: structural and non-structural pieces specifically meant for external and internal panels of cars, vans and boats
- Sport equipment: the lightweight and exceptional resistance make our composites a versatile solution for sporting applications, such as helmets, boots, skates...
- Building: non-structural panels for internal decorations, thanks to the optimal balance between lightness and moulding
- Security & Defence: high impact resistance is suitable for ballistic applications, ranging from general protective equipment to customized solutions
- Energy: thermoplastic composites are often studied to replace metal solutions. Due to their high mechanical performance and lightweight properties, they are ideal for wind blades and electrical energy
