E Glass cloths can be coated in either Fire Retardant aluminium particle polyurethane elastomer or intumescent fire retardant silicone elastomer for use in the manufacture of smoke, fire curtains and blinds, cavity wall fire barriers and other types of smoke and fire control systems.
Whilst polyurethane begins to thermally degrade at low temperatures, the micronized aluminium particles left behind fuse and act as an excellent shield against radiant / direct heat and form a protective layer to the glass cloth which greatly increases its fire retardant properties.
When exposed to high temperatures in excess of 140°C, intumescent coatings expand to form a foam like char that create excellent thermal insulating barriers. These are particularly useful in cavity wall fire barrier applications.
Stainless steel wire is are often incorporated to greatly enhance the base fabric strength and integrity.
